One of the reasons to visit Dublin is to take the fifty minute train ride to Howth. It is a spectacular fishing town and from what I hear, some of the most expensive real estate in all of Ireland. It is a perfect day trip if you are staying in Dublin. It is also a nice break away from the big city. Howth has a beautiful harbor right in front of the downtown.
Walk down the pier and browse the markets to see some of the most enticing displays of fresh fish and other delicacies. We purchased some deli meats and cheeses along with a delightful loaf of bread from one of the markets here for our drive to the Cliffs of Moher the following day. Here is the fish counter of our favorite market.
Mid morning is a perfect time to take the train into Howth. That will give you a little bit of time to scout around and then grab some lunch. If you love fish and chips, then you will undoubtedly partake them at least a couple of times during your trip to Ireland. Fish and Chips is a MUST in Howth as they are the best fish and chips you will ever put in your mouth. We went to a different establishment each time. My favorite was Leo Burdock but Beshoff Brothers certainly was a close second the next time.
