I absolutely love a great Mexican restaurant and I have been to a lot of them. There is one in particular though that stands out beyond all the others and that is Papas and Beer in Hendersonville, NC. Hendersonville is just 30 minutes down Hwy. 25 from Ashville. If you are coming up I-85 from Atlanta, you have to go through Hendersonville to get to the home of the Biltmore Estate, the Grove Park Inn and countless breweries. If you love Mexican food, Papas and Beer is a reason alone to stop and visit Hendersonville.
This isn’t the only location in the area. There is another one closer to Asheville on further down on Hwy. 25 but for some reason it isn’t near as good as this location. Yes, the outside doesn’t look like much but don’t let that deter you. The food is absolutely fantastic and the price points are extremely reasonable. First off, they have a Salsa bar that is very unique. The waiter will bring you chips but you must go to the station to get your salsa. Believe me it is worth it. They also have a great selection of Margaritas and have at least three on special every day. I recommend the Cadillac Margarita that comes with a side shot of Grand Marnier.
I am sure you cannot go wrong ordering an entre but Linda and I’s favorite is the California Burrito which is to die or. I would show a picture of the dish, but let’s face it, unless you have a professional camera, food pictures are never very good. Take time to explore Hendersonville while you are at it. Although it doesn’t offer near as much to see and experience as Asheville, it is a charming town with some unique stores and cafes. It also hosts the Apple Festival in September which is a huge draw.
