The Beach of Camogli while drinking Aperal Spritzers

A Slice of Italian Paradise Called Camogli

Linda and I both fell in love with the Italian Riviera during our last trip to Italy having spent three nights in Tellaro, just outside of Lerici. I wanted to return, this time focusing on the areas north of Cinque Terre. I stumbled across an article in Forbes Magazine heralding the exquisite village of Camogli, which is located near Portofino. As I try to avoid touristy areas at all costs, this lovely town has the low vibe that makes for a relaxing vacation. The coastal area of the town is split into two areas. One is the beach area itself. The picture below was taken as we sat on the beach patio of La Rotonda, which gives you a breathtaking view of the beach area.

Imagine gazing at this scene for 3 hours drinking Aperol Spritzers one after another

The other coastal part of Camogli consists of a small harbor hosting many boats of all shapes and sizes. The town has a wonderful boardwalk with one great restaurant and cafĂ© after another. The town is known for its great local cooking and the catch of the day served at many of the restaurants comes from Camogli’s surrounding waters. It and the neighboring town of Revello are infamous for focaccia bread. Since Camogli is, as of yet, relatively undiscovered, prices are very reasonable, especially when you consider the absolute beauty of the area.

Once you take in the spectacular beach and sea views, there are plenty of restaurants and cafes to enjoy.

Those who are used to American style pizza will probably be a little disappointed in true Italian pizza. I spotted this dedicated pizzeria called Bagni Miramare overlooking the beach and thought that the view would overshadow whatever I chose for lunch, but I absolutely fell in love with this dish that wasn’t pizza, but it was truly delicious. I wish I had taken a photo of the menu so I would have known what it was.

This was the best lunch I had in Italy at a local pizzeria in Camogli

From the beach, the town ascends straight up a steep incline. The journey upwards isn’t easy, but the rewarding views make it all worth it. We stayed in a delightful Airbnb hosted by Renzo whose deck overlooks the town below and the sea beyond it. Renzo had breakfast for us every morning that included fresh focaccia bread that he had purchased that morning. Renzo got us a reservation at Mille e una note where we had a fabulous meal. I highly recommend his place.

Breakfast each morning with focaccia bread and this wonderful view proved a real treat and great way to start each day during our stay in Camogli.

Forbes Magazine is correct when they say, come visit this beautiful Italian Riviera town before everyone else does. I am so glad Camogli sits quietly in the shadows of Portofino and Cinque Terre. It is a slice of paradise and we cannot wait to return one day.
